Breast Implant Categories

The FDA has given the nod to saline implants for women over the age of 18 years. Saline implants have been popular in the past and were the only implants to have received FDA-approval initially. These implants have an inner core comprising a sterile saline fluid. Saline implants are designed to provide better tautness and shape to the breasts.

A benefit of saline implants is that they can be placed surgically in a deflated state. After that, the saline solution can be filled in as necessary. This involves a smaller incision. Silicone Breast Implants

The FDA has approved silicone implants after exhaustive evaluation lasting several years. These implants have now evolved into the most preferred implant type over the past few years.

These implants offer women a natural touch and feel along with a superior aesthetic appeal due to the soft silicone gel core which makes them a popular choice for the augmentation procedure. Women over the age of 21 years can receive these implants.

Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants are form stable and ultra cohesive silicone gel implants. These are the newest implants to receive approval from the FDA. The silicone gel core is highly viscous in gummy bear implants. This enables them to stay in shape and retain form even under pressure.

In the event of implant damage, the thick silicone gel does not leak into other regions of the body. This enables these form stable implants to be safer along with being cosmetically superior. Silicone and saline breast implants are available in sizes that range from 120 cc to 960 cc. Patients may also have a choice between anatomical and round shapes.
