The plastic surgeons at Naples Aesthetic Institute combine extensive clinical experience with deep understanding of nasal anatomy to achieve beautifully sculpted noses that are in balance with overall facial aesthetics.
Dr. Diana Carrau, Naples Aesthetic Institute’s leading rhinoplasty specialist knows that the nose can be one of the most defining facial features. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, rhinoplasty is the #1 cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States.1
That’s because, when the nose is ideally shaped, it highlights the individual’s natural beauty. However, imperfections like a drooping or bulbous tip, a dorsal bump, or a crooked bridge can disrupt this delicate cosmetic balance. Fortunately, plastic surgery procedures like rhinoplasty can dramatically improve these imperfections and provide natural looking results.
Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, is an outpatient cosmetic surgery that can reshape the nose for cosmetic or functional purposes. It is common for patients to seek nasal surgery to correct aesthetic and functional issues at the same time.
Some additional benefits that rhinoplasty patients seek are:
The ideal rhinoplasty candidate is an individual who is in good general health, but wants to improve the cosmetic appearance or the function of their nose.
Patients desiring rhinoplasty typically expressing the following concerns:
Following surgery, it’s common for the nose to feel achy and puffy. Some patients experience blood and mucus drainage from the nostrils and a congested feeling. While mild discomfort is normal, your surgeon will provide you with pain medication to alleviate as discomfort as possible during your healing process.
She will provide you with instructions to follow throughout your recovery. These instructions will include the physical activities to avoid, as well as other pertinent information to aid in an optimal recovery and result.
This procedure, an osteotomy, is when a nasal surgeon must cut into the bone. While it is not required for all rhinoplasty patients, it is indicated for some based on their nasal anatomy and the extent of reshaping needed.
Many patients seek nose surgery to improve breathing. Structural nasal issues that can make it hard to breathe are a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, collapsed internal valve(s) or collapsing nostrils on inspiration. All of these conditions and more can be corrected with functional rhinoplasty.
There is no way to predict who will or won’t bruise following rhinoplasty. Bruising most often occurs when the nasal bones are fractured in an osteotomies to reposition them. Osteotomies can cause bruising around the lower eyelids, however some patients don’t bruise at all. When they do bruise, it generally subsides within 10-14 days.
While your surgeon will make incisions for an open rhinoplasty, you can expect they will heal beautifully and any scarring will be imperceptible.
Swelling can last for up to two years; however, you won’t have to wait that long to see a dramatic improvement in your nose. While final results will be somewhat obscured by swelling, your new nose will be visible the minute your surgical dressings are removed and will continue to look more refined as time passes.
Any surgical procedure carries the risk of complications. Rhinoplasty has risks including bleeding, infection, functional problems, and general anesthesia risks.3
Some patients prefer less-invasive options for improving the contours of their nose, and for these individuals a non-surgical nose job using dermal fillers is an ideal alternative. Dermal fillers can be used to smooth a dorsal bump or even out asymmetries in the nasal bridge. Dermal fillers can also be used to lift a drooping nasal tip.
