What Is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces or reshapes the labia minora (the inner lips of the vulva) and, in some cases, the labia majora (the outer lips). The goal is to address excess or asymmetrical tissue that causes physical irritation, discomfort during exercise or intercourse, or aesthetic concerns.
Labial anatomy varies widely from woman to woman. Enlarged or elongated labia minora are not uncommon and can result from genetics, childbirth, hormonal changes, or the natural aging process. When this tissue causes ongoing discomfort or affects your quality of life, labiaplasty offers a lasting, personalized solution.

Labiaplasty Techniques: Trim vs. Wedge
Dr. Gill tailors her surgical approach to each patient’s unique anatomy and goals. The two most commonly used techniques are:
Trim Technique
The trim technique removes a straight line of excess tissue along the outer edge of the labia minora. This approach is effective for patients with significant tissue excess. Dissolvable sutures are used, and incisions are placed to minimize visibility.
Wedge Technique
The wedge technique removes a V-shaped section of tissue from the middle of the labia minora, preserving the natural outer edge and its specialized nerve endings. This approach is preferred when maintaining natural texture and sensitivity is a priority.
Dr. Gill will recommend the technique best suited to your anatomy and desired outcome during your consultation.

Your Consultation and Preparing for Surgery
Your labiaplasty journey begins with a private, one-on-one consultation with Dr. Gill. During this appointment, she will review your medical history, evaluate your anatomy, and listen carefully to your goals and concerns. She will explain your surgical options, recommend the most appropriate technique, and walk you through what to expect before, during, and after your procedure. There is no pressure and no judgment, only clear, honest guidance.
Once you decide to move forward, Dr. Gill’s team will provide detailed pre-operative instructions tailored to your plan. General preparation guidelines include:
- Stopping smoking at least four to six weeks before surgery, as smoking impairs healing
- Avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil) for two weeks prior to your procedure
- Arranging for a trusted adult to drive you home and stay with you on the day of surgery
- Wearing loose, comfortable clothing on the day of your procedure
- Filling any prescribed medications in advance so they are ready when you return home
Dr. Gill and her team are available to answer any questions you have leading up to your surgery date, ensuring you feel fully prepared and confident every step of the way.
What to Expect During Your Procedure
Labiaplasty at Naples Aesthetic Institute is performed as an outpatient procedure, typically taking one to two hours. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with oral sedation or IV sedation, depending on your comfort level and the complexity of your case. Dissolvable sutures are used, so there is no need for suture removal. Most patients return home the same day.
In some cases, a hoodectomy (reduction of the clitoral hood) may be performed at the same time to achieve a more balanced aesthetic result.

Labiaplasty Recovery
Recovery from labiaplasty is generally well-tolerated. Here is what you can expect:
- Days 1 to 3: Mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal. Rest and ice packs help manage initial symptoms.
- Week 1: Most patients return to light desk work and daily activities within a few days to one week.
- Weeks 2 to 3: Swelling continues to subside. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended during this period.
- Weeks 3 to 4: Light exercise may be gradually resumed as directed by Dr. Gill.
- Week 6: Sexual activity and strenuous exercise may be resumed once Dr. Gill confirms full healing.
Final results are typically visible within three to six months as residual swelling fully resolves.

What Our Patients Are Saying
We understand that choosing labiaplasty is a deeply personal decision. In addition to hearing from patients about their experiences, you can view before-and-after photos to see real outcomes while respecting patient privacy and discretion.

When performed using the wedge technique, the natural outer edge and nerve endings of the labia are preserved, minimizing any impact on sensation. Dr. Gill will discuss which technique is most appropriate for your anatomy and goals.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia, so you will not feel pain during surgery. Post-operative discomfort is typically mild to moderate and is well-managed with prescribed medication and ice packs.
Dr. Gill places incisions carefully to minimize visibility. Dissolvable sutures are used, and most patients find that any residual marks fade significantly over time.
As with any surgical procedure, labiaplasty carries some risk, including temporary swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, and changes in sensitivity. Serious complications are uncommon when the procedure is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited surgical setting. Dr. Gill will review all risks and precautions with you during your consultation.
Labiaplasty results are long-lasting. Significant weight fluctuations, additional pregnancies, or continued aging may affect the tissue over time, but most patients enjoy their results for many years.
The cost of labiaplasty varies based on the technique used, anesthesia type, and whether additional procedures are performed at the same time. Financing options are available. During your consultation, you will receive a personalized quote based on your specific treatment plan.
