Saline implants are traditional breast implants filled with sterile saline water. They’re filled with water after insertion, and they’re suitable for all adults over 18 years of age. Saline implants are extremely safe—if they get ruptured, the implant will deflate, and the saline solution will get absorbed by your body without health risks. While saline implants are safe, they don’t look or feel exactly like natural breast tissues. Furthermore, in the unlikely event your implants were to rupture, the shape and size of the breast will change; it may appear deflated or develop wrinkles.
Silicone implants are form-stable implants with pre-filled silicone gel. They’re the most popular type of breast implant because the thick and sticky fluid used closely approximates human fat tissue, making it the most natural-looking type of breast implant. If a silicone implant ruptures, the silicone gel might slowly leak into surrounding breast tissue, leading to breast pain and contour changes. Most patients won’t immediately realize a ruptured has occurred, necessitating regular MRIs to ensure nothing is leaking.
